Cautions & Restrictions
Please inform us in advance of your appointment if you have any of the following conditions:
1. Lung-related Conditions:
- Lung disease in any form
- Previous lung surgery
- Emphysema
- Pneumothorax/Collapsed Lung
2. High Blood Pressure:
- Ensure it is under control; blood pressure should be below 160/100
3. Other Conditions:
- Claustrophobia
- Epilepsy/Seizures
- Diabetes: Schedule sessions when blood sugar is stable
- Cataracts: May accelerate cataract ripening
- Pregnancy: Contraindicated
- Sinus/Ear congestion: Take a decongestant one hour before your session
High Blood Pressure Guidelines:
- If blood pressure is consistently high, consult a medical doctor before using the chamber.
- If readings exceed 160/100, a medical evaluation is necessary.
- Schedule sessions when blood pressure is most stable.
Heart Conditions:
- Medical prescription required for angina and other heart conditions.
- If stable, the patient can use the chamber with proper positioning.
Sinus Surgery or Ear Disease:
- Extra pressure may occur; treatment might be uncomfortable.
- Consider taking a decongestant before the session.
Asthma:
- Carry a puffer for acute attacks.
- Slow depressurization if air trapping occurs.
Lung Disease and Pneumothorax:
- Requires a medical prescription.
Emphysema:
- Gas trapping and CO2 concerns; consult a doctor before sessions.
Chest Surgery:
- Clearance needed to ensure no Pneumothorax.
Epilepsy, Seizure, Convulsions:
- Rare risk of seizure; stable blood sugar and temperature reduce risks.
- High temperature not allowed.
Diabetes:
- Eat before sessions to stabilize blood sugar; hyperbarics may lower it.
Cataracts:
- Cases reported where cataracts worsened; consult your doctor.
Blood Disorders:
- Sickle Cell Anemia: Exercise caution.
- Congenital Spherocytosis: Generally safe at lower pressures.
Claustrophobia:
- Technician ensures comfort; visit the facility beforehand to assess.
Supervision:
- Caregiver responsibility for mentally/physically challenged patients or minors.
Disclosure:
- Blood pressure machines are not diagnostic tools; consult a doctor for evaluations.
